6:00 | Non-Ghibli illustrations of Katsuya Kondo, animation director of Studio Ghibli
Katsuya Kondo, renowned animation director of Studio Ghibli, has brought his unique style not only to Ghibli films but also to a variety of other projects outside the studio. Here I am highlighting some of Kondo's notable non-Ghibli illustrations.
In 2013, Kondo illustrated the cover for Ryō Asai's novel "Draft of the World Map". This illustration, like many of Kondo's works, retains the familiar Ghibli aesthetic.
For the "Kadokawa Manga Learning Series: World History", Kondo illustrated the covers for all 20 volumes. The illustrations make it easier for kids to learn history. His artistry is seen in the cover designs, while the manga within is by another artist.
Kondo's artistry can also be seen on the cover of "One Flower: Hiroshima's Song", a collection of nine stories about war. His delicate and poignant cover illustration adds depth to the book's somber themes.
On the stage, Kondo's work graced the cover of the program for the theater performance "Snow Falls on the Southern Island", a special project commemorating 70 years after the war. This illustration evokes feelings of hope, despair, and sadness all at the same time.
And here are some more:
Katsuya Kondo's work, whether in Ghibli films or other projects, continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide. His distinctive style adds a touch of magic to every piece he creates.

This website turns the boring experience of reading the Zillow apartment descriptions into something fun by sharing stories about available rental/buying properties in Japan. Here are some of the properties that caught my eye.
8:00 | Tanaka 23SS Southern French Shirt
Linen shirt from Tanaka, an NYC label founded in 2017 by Sayori Tanaka, a designer from Yohji Yamamoto & UNIQLO. Their brand transcends time & gender. The brand's concept revolves around "clothes that connects the past and next 100 years." (今までの100年とこれからの100年を紡ぐ服) Tanaka aims to harmonize design and sustainability, all while incorporating environmentally conscious manufacturing processes and traditional Japanese techniques
This Tanaka 23SS Southern French Shirt is a testament to the brand's commitment to quality and sustainable design, although it's mainly known for the Japanese denim they produce. The shirt is made of a unique blend of fabrics, including flax, silk, cotton, cupro, and nylon.
8:00 | Apartment and atelier of a freelance prop stylist living in Tokyo
Prop stylist Alex Hayano owns a diverse collection ranging from vintage furniture and stress relief products to props for her work, stones, and kitchen goods. Colorful, playful, and tasteful.
Her fun website and Instagram — she worked with brands like Timberland, Shiseido, SONY, MICHAEL KORS, and ZOZOTOWN (Japan’s largest online clothing store). Her taste shows in her works as well.
“I want to create something beautiful and funny. There are many wonderful things in our daily lives, but we usually don't notice them. I look at things from a slightly different perspective and create. So that I can show that there is another way to look at things. I would be happy if I could add more fun things to the world.”
