5:00 | “Painting of Painting” by Teppei Takeda
The artist’s process begins by producing dozens of drawings, and then selecting one of them as the sketch to work from. He scans the selected drawing and augments its texture in digital form. As he works on the scan to maximize the texture in the digital data, he gives careful consideration to how the visual experience acts on the human mind and the emotions. When this is done, he outputs the digital painting and uses it as the basis for the next stage, where he reproduces the texture of the painting in great detail as a real painting using the sort of fine brushes employed for painting miniatures.
This process gives the painting a distinctive aura and results in a work that is an augmentation of reality. With such a meticulous approach, he needs at least a month of effort to complete each work, and sometimes it can take as long as two months. But spending so much time alone in deep concentration on a single work generates a force of attraction so strong that very few paintings can match it.
6:30 | MUJI announced the construction of 20 wooden stores
Ryohin Keikaku (aka MUJI) has signed a "Building Timber Utilization Promotion Agreement for the Expansion of Timber Use" with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries. Over the next five years, they aim to use the equivalent of 10,000 cubic meters of domestic timber to construct these wooden stores.
Under the corporate philosophy of "Realizing a Comfortable Life and Society," the Ryohin Keikaku Group aims to contribute to the realization of a resource-recycling and nature-coexisting society and a sustainable society through the products and services they provide, their stores, and their activities.
Moving forward, the technology of MUJI HOUSE, the architecture arm of MUJI, will be utilized for the wooden construction of planned stores. MUJI HOUSE has been conducting architecture business mainly around 'MUJI Houses' since 2003, and so far, it has a track record of constructing more than 3,000 homes.
7:30 | Howl’s Moving Castle’s version of the painting ‘The Kiss’ by Canadian/Estonian illustrator, Lothlenan
8:00 | Michiya Kato shows how they animated the rippling hallway in Paprika (2006)
9:00 | Hidden (literally) vintage furniture store in Meguro, Tokyo
"You Are Welcome" is a vintage interior shop in Tokyo that was opened in May 2018 by Shuutaro Yaguchi, a prop stylist. The store is filled with a wide variety of items collected from various regions (Nordic countries, Italy, Africa, America, China, etc…) and time periods, creating a space that feels like a treasure chest. He essentially runs it alone and manages the store about four days a week. At the same time, he is active as a props stylist on the set of campaigns and advertisements for brands like GU and RIMOWA, at Shinjuku Flags, and in music and magazine shoots.
Yaguchi, who comes from a fashion background, started getting interested in vintage items when he began helping out with operations at a vintage shop called 'New Territory' in Nakameguro, at a friend's invitation. Initially, he learned from observing senior buyers and began discerning the value and appeal of items as he made selections on buying trips to places like Los Angeles. His own taste became clearer over time. He started as a part-time worker and ended up as a freelance vintage specialist buyer at New Territory for almost a decade. Eventually, he desired to have his own store. That's when Neon Planning, who runs a bar called 'Nakameneon', frequented by industry people in Nakameguro and also an acquaintance, offered him to share a corner of their space as an office/store.
10:00 | Akira poster with incredibly rich details
A poster of Akira, one of the most impactful animated films from the 80s.
The colors are so vibrant and the details are just mind-blowing.
"I watched AKIRA when I was 6 years old and after it I was never going to be the same again… It’s definitely one of my favourite animation movies of all times. As a childhood dream, I have recently had the amazing opportunity to draw this poster for @cinemaparc and make my own version of Tetsuo tha monster!"
10:30 | Giorno's fashion is inspired by "gangster styles" and "bishonen" genres and gay fashion
“[The creator of JoJo,] Araki explains in the sequel to his book "Hirohiko Araki's Manga Techniques" that Giorno's androgynous appearance and attire were a result of him trying to incorporate "gangster styles" and "bishonen" genres.
In addition, Giorno's suit is inspired by gay fashion.”
